Sun Searchers

Picked up Pat from the airport Sunday, while Chris picked up Erin. Both spent a few days in Miami shopping and tanning, or should I say burning. Both had a great time, you can tell by how tired they were. Glad their back.

Our weary travelers back from soaking up some sun in Miami.

Saturday Night Races

The annual Petaluma Big Dog Nationals was hitting town this last Saturday night. Kristen and I were hand selected to be the pit crew for this event for no other than the Last Minute Hillbilly Race Team. My Brother John was racing #80 and being my third time, I knew this was going to be a big night for the team. After changing a tire and setting up all equipment for the night we headed to the drivers meeting. Hmmm anew rule instituted this year, if a track member, helps in any way to fix or repair a car, you would then lose you position and be put at the back of the pack. Little would we know that this would come back to bite us later in the evening.
Got the tires up to the correct pressure, yes all 4 are different and I must check them before any race. If the right rear does not have at least 16lbs and John finishes in the standings, he would be disqualified. I think this levels the playing field. He ends up starting the heat race in 9th, and after a slow start he starts picking them off one by one while avoiding all accidents (I don't want accidents, then I have to work harder : )). He ends up in 6th position at the end which is good enough to transfer him staright into the "B" Main. Wow first time I ever seen him in the B, so I am excited, especially since he says the car is perfect. Well of course I open my mouth and tell him his shot down the straight aways aren't as fast as last year. Well it gets him thinking so we do a shock change to soften the initial grab coming off the turns since the track is soft. Turns out to be a good choice. After trying to light the BBQ and finally getting the Pork Loin over the coals (that was so tasty , good job Shirley) we headed out for the "B" Main. I don't remeber where John started, it was way back there that's all I know. He worked his way up to fourth but in doing so, his sheetmetal on the passenger side was flapping in the wind, which made for unsafe conditions. So I ran back to the pits and got all needed tools to do a quick repair, only to find out the Track dude stuck some tape on it and remember that rule, yep John got shoved to the back of the pack. It was okay because John was mad, and when he is mad, it's like he is on a mission. One by one sometimes two a turn, he worked his way back to 5th to finish the race, The top 6 transfered to the "A" Main, so this meant John had a chance to take to big purse of 2.5k. After some quick sheetmetal repairs, 10 gallons of fuel and tire pressure checks, he was back out for the main event. Well lets just say he made the big one, which made me and Kristen very proud. He had some unfortunant damage in the first two laps, then some motor problems, so he ended up not finishing, but all in all it was a great time and Shirley found a new mud scrapper for next year. Kristen really enjoyed herself and since it being her first time to see the cars race on mud, she was just amazed. We'll get them next year. Last Minute Hill Billy Race Team is linked to my blog go check it out and see if he is coming to a town near yours. "Last Minute HBRT" is the link name.

Mud Scrapper Apprentice, has been invited back for next years big event.

Okay started in the back, but worked his way up to get transferred into the "B" Main. I need some practice on high speed action with the camera.

Road Trip

I hit the road last Friday to pick up Kristen from college. She was coming home for a weekend visit. Since the motor/ clutch had very few miles on it, I wanted to only take back roads, so as you follow the pics, you can see that I was able to avoid all highways. My trip took over 3 hours and never reached above the 55MPH speed limit. No traffic, great weather, it was perfect.Funny story just after I crossed over the Antioch Bridge....., as I slowed for traffic as they were doing road repair, only allowing one direction to go through at a time, I noticed a car who going the opposite direction made a quick u-turn behind me. I thought, that's wierd, why would this person wanna go through the road construction twice????Well it turns out it was my Brother John, The race car driver, he recognized my car. We were out in the middle of nowhere, how random is that. He asked where I was going, told him to pick up his special Pit Team Member in Sacramento for his Saturday night races. He didn't figure it out until we showed up to his races : )Enjoy the photos, and for those who don't know, my trip took me through Livermore, over the Altamont Pass, through Brentwood, Oakley, accross the Antioch Bridge then followed route 160 all the way through the Calif. Delta to Sacramento. Recommend the drive for all, quite relaxing.

My adventure begins, for this is where I hit uncharted roads.

This one is amazing, so for all you 580 commuters, be aware if we have a trembler while your coming down into Livermore.

The train brigde heading for the old town of Altamont, no I didn't find the town, I believe most is gone except for the wrecking yard, I passed.

New fangled bird saving wind powered electricity making things. Cool photo.

Wind Power, and the water on the right is the California Aqueduct or is it the Delta Mendota Canal, all I know is it's water heading to L.A.

The Isleton Bridge, one of our best Salmon trolling areas. Saw one being boated as I pondered the scenery.

The bridge to Walnut Grove, no I didn't cross it.

These are the lockes above Walnut Grove, they actually close thes sometime in late October to keep the water flowing safely in the Delta during those winter months. Good place to troll for Salmon.

The old Ryde Hotel, yep it says no parking, so I had to be quick : )

Boy, I bet that thing is heavy!

Just another bridge on my journey.

Hey. this is our flying saucer, at least when the kids were younger that's how we identified this water tower. I believe it was from Mars : )

Yes, I bought the daily permit, but got a ticket for parking in the wrong place.

The reason to go to Sac, to bring Kristen home for a weekend visit. We had lunch in her dining common.

Clutch replacement plus!

Needed a new clutch since once again mine was saturated with tranny fluid. Hope the new seal corrects this problem. So since I had to pull the motor and had the not enough power syndrome, I figured I would update and put in some monster heads, new barrels and pistons and a mid and back tranny strap to prevent the breaking of trans axle mounts. Also to save my nosecone from becoming a piece of garbage. Pics below is a quick summary of my 3 day job.

Back in and notice the room around the air cleaners, these heads are cut different, gives more room under the lid. Must mean more power : )

Ready to go back in, yep I use Castrol.
